KITASHI PILLOWS

As part of The Kitashi Bitcoin Trophies, there exists a subcategory called Kitashi Pillows.

Kit refers to these pieces as a form of proof of work—specifically, his own human labour. Each physical pillow is handmade and low-tech, while its corresponding high-resolution Ordinal is high-tech, creating a compelling fusion between the physical object and its digital counterpart.

The criss-cross of paint splatters and hand-sewn stitches produces a kind of barcode—unique to each pillow.

Kit ~ If time is the very essence of life, then when I make these pillows, I’m giving my life to them – my time spent in labour. I’m turning that time, an immaterial thing, into a material thing – an object with specific properties. I’m turning time into hard money – sound money – money with a fixed supply, through its integration with the Bitcoin blockchain. The pillow was chosen because it mirrors the shape of a banknote. It’s a symbol. I’m not pretending otherwise. People don’t understand that all art is performative. Fundamentally, I’m a performance artist. The art is to become a commercial success. And as I achieve this, I become a kind of money printer. And these pillows—they are my money. All the Trophies are. That’s what you’re buying. You’re spending fiat to buy money.

Very few people are living money printers. It’s an immense challenge to become one of them.”
